I’ll forever be a fan of a good quote about positivity – because beyond mental health problems that we can’t change with just ‘happy thoughts’ like depression – I believe we can take control of our own moods. Being positive is really a series of thought processes, it’s the reason why people who voice their complaints are less happy (and less fun to be around) than those who see the light in tough situations. It’s a pretty common misconception that people are happier when they find wealth and career success, when they find an attractive partner or get a new car – but happiness is really about a mindset. I know plenty of people who appear to have it all but aren’t content with their lives. It’s all about setting your view, taking control of your perspective.
So often I need to work in team of people, long days and other challenges can really demean the collective mood. My goal in these circumstances is to ensure I’m not the weakest link – meaning – provided I’m the one giving positive energy and not negative – I can not only share good feelings with my team but also get that energy reflected back upon me, making the whole ordeal much easier to handle. I guess it’s a kind of super power too – sharing good positivity and energy! You almost always get the feeling back – and if not – at least you haven’t sat around wallowing in self pity or contributed to someone else having a bad day.
Anyway, here’s my top five quotes about positivity. They can be a great boost when you feel your mood slipping!!
Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up. Allen Klein
The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity. Benjamin Franklin
What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity. J. Sidlow Baxter
Our beliefs about what we are and what we can be precisely determine what we can be. Anthony Robbins
You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive. Maya Angelou
The internet can be a wealth of positive influence – so if you’re ever feeling flat – sometimes the right kind of google search can be all you need! I hope you like some of my favourite quotes – and here’s to you having some great thoughts headed into this week!
