Distressed Shorts and Skirts for the Remainder of Summer

Written by: Camila Carril

Spending much time in the sun this summer? Then a suitcase filled with distressed shorts and skirts is exactly what you need!

It’s hard not to visualise the high school tackiness or Abercrombie ubiquity of the early 2000s when we think denim minis, but the millennial fashion trend’s resurgence is supremely tasteful like most comebacks… And I’ll be the first to tell you that I couldn’t be happier about the return of the frayed denim mini trend! So give it another try by following my styling tips below:

Frayed Denim Pencil Skirt

Ease yourself into the the trend with a frayed denim pencil skirt – it’s definitely more breathable than shorts and also hides parts of your body you don’t really want to show (hint: thighs and belly). Try it with a polished button-down or a graphic tee.

Look at that mini skirt! I just love the shape of it with a quite spacious pocket in the front. It’s a look that can appear both casual and smart when styled tastefully. So, pick a mini with an interesting silhouette and pop over a nice oversized shirt with some sleek heels.

Distressed Shorts + Sneakers

Sneakers with everything is a smart move this season and it’s no surprise with denim cutoffs. It’s a look that’s just perfect for a casual get-together with your friends. Pick a light embroidered tunic to go with it for a change – so comfy and ideal for the summer.

The Real Denim Mini Skirt

Nights can be quite warm, right? Here’s the solution for when you’re meeting someone in the evening: Smart oxford shirt half-tucked into a frayed denim mini skirt. You will still look quite classy and without the LBD feel, and comfortable enough that you won’t be boiling with sweat underneath.

A New Mini Shorts Combination

Distressed cutoffs can look amazing with so many different things, mostly because it matches everything. And sometimes, something that simple can make all the difference in the whole look. For example, this outfit surely wouldn’t be as nice if it was worn with jean trousers instead, would it? So the next time you pick up mini shorts, seek a feminine, bohemian blouse to go with it.
